junior year.
Information systems
I hated this class and learned that I want nothing to do with IS in my professional career. I am, however, much more thankful for the people who have computing skills. I.S. encompasses so much- coding, consumer behavior, design, interaction, advertisement, technical ability, information packaging, robotics, and so much more. These inventors and specialists keep pushing us forward, to the next stage of technology. Although I am not concentrating my studies on I.S., I am thankful to have a basic working knowledge of the field, understand its importance, and work with I.S. professionals in the future.

This class was incredible. It is one of two required classes for departmental honors for the business school. This course was, hands down, the most realistic learning experience I have had inside Paccar Hall. Raj teaches his students what it feels like to start out working in the average entry level business job and what you have to do to succeed. Alongside learning about management theory, he played the role of manager and we were his direct reports. He would switch the syllabus around with out telling us to demonstrate the importance of flexibility. Raj also loved group work and watching us deal with problematic team dynamics. Every week he would assign us an impossible amount of work and as a group we would have to figure out how to prioritize tasks and delegate responsibilities to meet stressful deadlines. Then, when we reported out as a team he would often skim over or altogether ignore the detailed documents mandated by his syllabus. Instead, he would control the conversation and we would have to fight to share our ideas. Often he would assign us a 30 minute presentation, have us set up, let us click the first slide, stop us, then pick one member of the group to pepper with questions for a minute before telling us to sit down. The documentation I've attached below is one part of the formal report that went into our final presentation project. This report took the better part of a week to write and I only got 15 seconds to talk about it before he told me to sit down. I am also quite sure he didn't even read it as he published our final grades 5 minutes after we left the final class.
At first I thought Raj was a lunatic, then I realized he was a genius. As students, we tend to think life will be pretty great after graduation. We are going to get high paying jobs at promising corporations and the world will be at our fingertips. Raj shattered my naiveté by showing that sometimes, your idea doesn't get heard, people don't give you the time of day, and they don't care if the amount of work you have to do is downright unreasonable. He wanted us to feel this now. If he could train us in emotional intelligence and help us gain a good professional skill set then we would be prepared for the job market. After taking his course I'm still excited at the opportunity of having a job and working my way up, but I also know now that I am ready to face the hard parts of a career as well.
