Freshman Year.
Early Fall Start Business Bridge Program
The University of Washington's Foster School of Business hosts a competitive bridge program for incoming freshmen that takes place during the Early Fall Start Window. The curriculum of this program is focused on helping students learn about what to expect out of a marketing, finance, or accounting career at a large corporation. The class runs from 8:00 am to 5:00pm; we spent the first half of the day in the Paccar Hall taking Business Administration 490, a business writing class focusing on Film Noir. In the afternoons we toured businesses, attended workshops, listened to quest speakers, and learned various business skills centered around developing professionalism. On weekends we had program socials and attended company events.

This class was a service learning opportunity through the Carlson Learning Center. Over the course of the quarter, I volunteered three hours a week at the University District Food Bank. This enhanced my experience with the coursework which focused on digital communications, social networking, micro financing, social media, and new sources. Using both the lens of service and digital media, I wrote about my experiences as a volunteer and juxtaposed them with my findings from class.
