Final Thoughts From Honors 100.
The caliber of academics is much higher this quarter than ever before and has thereby completely changed how I judge success. I used to expect my grades to easily stay in the upper threes, and when I earned such marks I believed that I was doing well. However now, despite diligent study habits, I am struggling to get a 3.0 in one of my classes. Thus, this quarter has not only pushed me academically but also personally. I have had to come to terms with the fact that some classes, no matter how hard I try, are just going to kick my butt. But this is okay because everything will not always come easy to me, and sometimes I just need to let myself off the hook.
My resilience has definitely surprised me this quarter. From start to finish, the past 10 weeks have been a grind- always pushing me to my breaking point. In addition to hating my classes, it has been a tough season with regards to friends and family. About mid quarter I realized that I was miserable, discourage, and could not stop complaining- when the rubber hit the road there was giant gap between the person I was and the person I want to be. Sometimes life sucks- you have to put your head down and work hard, but you do so with a cheerful heart. You hang in there, you learn, you grow, and then eventually, you move on.
Honors 100 has exposed me to a handful of people who are really passionate about study abroad. Through student panels, guest speakers, and my peers I am certain I have contracted a severe case of the travel bug. I hope to find time to do an abroad program during my studies; specifically I am looking into a Exploration Seminar this summer.
When I first came to UW as a freshman, the vast size of our university was daunting. Over the past year, however, this has become one of my favorite things about this school. It allows UW the means to offer many invaluable resources, and creates an environment in which I can constantly be meeting new people and trying new things- like the Honors Program.
By the end of this year I hope to be admitted to the Foster School of Business. This is something I started working towards August 2011 during my time in the Early Fall Start Business Bridge program. I have been striving building towards this goal throughout my entire college experience. Additionally, I hope to go abroad and participate in another service learning course before the end of my time at UW.
